The non-profit Eco-LogicalART Gallery located at 4829 West Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, 90019, will hold an event, this Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 7pm to celebrate its Eco Art Helps project, sponsored by the Vinyl Institute, which has over 80 participants from schools and arts organizations located across LA– from Venice, CA to downtown and including participation from students at LA High and other area schools. The youth art project has the ultimate goal of getting a recycled billboard canvas into the hands of every Los Angeles public middle and high school child who wants one. End of the year plans include expanding the pilot exhibit to various neighborhoods across the city of Los Angeles.
Working with a theme of “The World That I See/World I Hope Could Be”, the art will be displayed on the gallery exterior April 24th, 2010 and revealed with a live curtain drop at 7pm. The event also features a gallery show of “green” themed art, live art demonstrations, workshops, music, and more. Contact eco-la@sbcglobal.net for more information.

Lots of neighborhood council news circulated this weekend and this piece from Curbed LA effectively brings many of the voices together:
The Daily News’ Rick Orlov reports that today Mayor Villaraigosa is expected to announce that the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, which oversees Neighborhood Councils, will be folded into another agency. Via the news: “A recommendation to the mayor on Sunday calls for placing the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, or DONE, within the Community Development Department and reducing its staff from 42 to about a dozen. DONE has a total budget of $3.2 million. Under the action, DONE General Manger BH Kim is expected to step down as director. Responsibility for the agency will be placed with CDD Director Richard Benbow.” As previously reported by other papers, there’s been strange screw-ups recently at the agency ($880,000 in unaccounted credit card purchases, for instance). And while admitting that he’s “not a fan of DONE’s performance,” Our LA.org OpEd writer Noel Weiss questions the legality and protocol of folding one city agency into another.
